What to wear?
You are welcome to dress in a way that you are comfortable. At your first visit you will find that people in this congregation dress in a range from dressy to casual, so whether you choose a suit and tie, jeans and a t-shirt or something in between you will be welcomed.
Is the building handicap accessible?
Yes, our building has a handicap accessible entrance on the left end of the building with designated parking in front of the building. Once inside these doors you are on the main floor with access to the sanctuary, chapel and church offices. There is an elevator to provide access to the lower level where our gym, kitchen and classrooms are.
Yes, your children are welcome to sit with you during the service. At the entrance to the sanctuary there are tote bags filled with quiet activities and coloring books for your child to borrow during the service.
Is childcare available during worship service?
During the traditional service, we have a nursery for infants through age 3, which is staffed with Safe Sanctuary Certified volunteers. The room is filled with age appropriate toys and activities. There is a second room available for parents and their children, which has a rocking chair and changing station complete with a sink for hand washing. The sound from the worship service is piped into these childcare rooms so parents and volunteers may still listen in on the service while caring for the little ones.
What is Safe Sanctuaries?
Safe Sanctuaries is a program provided through the United Methodist Church which requires all volunteers, who work with children, to go through special training, provide references and go through a background check. Two safe sanctuaries certified adults must be present in each room where children’s programming is being held. Safe Sanctuary Certification is required before any volunteer can help in the nursery, Sunday school or youth group meetings and events.
What Sunday School classes are available for me and my family?
A variety of Sunday School classes are available for all ages. Sunday School classes meet during the hour following the traditional service. Childcare is available for infants and toddlers in the nursery during that time. Children’s classes are available for Pre-schoolers, elementary school aged children, and teens. There are several adult classes available. To read descriptions of these classes and find out where they meet click here.
Is there a coffee hour or fellowship time on Sunday mornings?
There is no formal fellowship time set for typical Sunday mornings. However, there is a coffee bar, which often has snacks, downstairs outside the kitchen and gymnasium (stairs are next to the elevator). You are welcome to pick up a cup on your way to Sunday School and visit with others from the church.
We hope this has been helpful and has answered some of your questions about your first visit. Feel free to contact our church office at: 717-561-0388 with any additional questions you may have. We look forward to meeting you!
