PROJECTS

1 – Mission Central         40 participants

Leader:         TBD

Description: Meet at the church at 8:30AM and travel to Mission Central in Mechanicsburg. Once there, assemble kits to be sent around the world to people in need. This work is not physically demanding and can be done while seated.  Some parts of the team may do some light warehouse work such as washing windows, stripping floors, moving items, etc. You will not be asked to do any warehouse work, unless you indicate you are willing to do so.

Location:      Mission Central in Mechancisburg

Time Frame: 8:30 am to 11:30 am (includes drive time)

Ages:             10 & up (under 14 must be accompanied by a parent)

2a – Peanut Butter Egg Project SATURDAY      up to 17 participants

Leader:         Sheryl Strite

Description: We’ll be making a special run of Chambers Hill Peanut Butter eggs. Saturday’s team will set up, mix and form the eggs.

Location:      Social Hall at Chambers Hill UMC

Time Frame:  8:00 am —11:00 am

2b – Peanut Butter Egg Project SUNDAY        up to 20 participants

Leader:         Sheryl Strite

Description: We’ll be making a special run of Chambers Hill Peanut Butter eggs. Sunday’s team will coat, wrap, and label the eggs.

Location:      Social Hall at Chambers Hill UMC

Time Frame:  8:00 am—11:00 am

3 – KIDS PROJECT – Assemble Kits

Leader:         Amber Getsay, Joyce Getsay

Description:  This project is specifically designed for kids to participate while their parents attend another project.  The kids will meet at the church where they will participate in various activities from 9:00 am – 9:50.  They will then walk over to the Chambers Hill Fire Company where they will assist Michelle Hummel, who was recently highlighted in the Swatara Township newsletter, in assembling Michelle’s Sunshine Bags.  These bags are filled with lots neat items that Michelle then distributes to those who are experiencing their first chemotherapy treatment.  After completing the bags, the kids will get a chance to learn more about the fire company and see the engine before heading back to the church for pick-up.

Location:      Phoenix Classroom, Chambers Hill UMC

Time Frame:            9:00 am – 11:00 am  (Parents, if you are attending another project and need to drop off your child early, please let us know)

4 – Adopt A Highway                     12 participants

Leader:         Allison Kuhn

Description: Meet at the church at 11:30PM.  This group will control the litter along our assigned portion of Chambers Hill Road, as part of the Adopt a Highway program.  Sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, and bug spray are recommended for this job.  You can also bring along your own work gloves.

Time Frame:            11:30 am to 1:00 pm

5 – Sewing Project – Morningstar Baby Blankets       8-10 participants

Leader:         Dot Lloyd & Mary Alice Neumyer

Description: Meet at the church at 1:00PM and gather in the Phoenix Room.  Once there, volunteers will sew baby blankets for Morningstar.  Basic sewing skills are required.

Location:      Phoenix Room at Chambers Hill UMC

Time Frame:            1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

6 – Hospice House                 12 participants

Leader:         Vickie Gray 

Description: Meet at the church at 1:00PM and travel to the Hospice house. Once there, you will do light yard work such as pulling weeds, trimming bushes, cleaning gutters, raking leaves and light power washing of a small patio.

Location:      Carolyn Croxton Slane House, Linglestown 

Time Frame:  1:00 pm travel to Hospice House

7 – Frey Village  – Adopt A Pet              5 – 6 participants

Leader:         Tammy Farling/Gary Gray 

Description: Meet at the church at 1:00 pm and travel to Fry Village. Once there, you assist in the Adopt-A-Pet program for the residents.  PLEASE NOTE:  You will be required to wear a mask for this project.

Location:      Frey Village, Middletown 

Time Frame:  1:00 pm travel to Frey Village

8 – Christian Churches United Newsletter              8 participants

Leader:         Donna Kohl 

Description: Meet at the church at 1:30 pm and travel to CCU. Once there, you work on the newsletter project and, if time permits, assemble homeless kits.

Time Frame:  1:30 pm travel to CCU

9a- Bethesda Mission Tea   SATURDAY               4 participants

Description:  Meet at the church on SATURDAY 1:00PM and bake goods that will be served during the Sunday Bethesda Mission Tea.

9b- Bethesda Mission Tea   SUNDAY               5 – 6 participants

Leader:         Mary Klaus

Description:  Meet at the church on Sunday at 1:30PM and car pool to the Bethesda Women’s shelter in Harrisburg where Mary will host a tea for the residents, and make a donation of tables and chairs from her widow’s fund.

Location:      Bethesda Mission Women’s Shelter, Reilly St, Harrisburg.

Time Frame:  1:00 pm until done

10 – Cookout                            6 participants

Leader:         Kim Kennedy

Description: This team will prepare the meal and hospitality for our evening gathering, including setting up the room for our evening worship.  You’ll feed all of our hungry volunteers after a good day doing the Lord’s work.

Location:     Social Hall at Chambers Hill UMC

Time Frame:     2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (mealtime)

Christian Churches United (CCU) – Shoe Drive

Shoe Drive:

CCU is collecting new or gently used shoes, boots and sneakers (men’s & women’s) for distribution to those who benefit from their services.  Feel free to drop of your shoes at any time, a donation box will be placed in the Narthex and will remain there through the Church Has Left the Building project.
